Deforestation also affects the animals who rely on trees for shelter and food. Many endangered species live in forests which are being cut down so rapidly. Almost 70% of animals cannot survive the deforestation that has taken over their habitats. With the amount of trees gone, the canopy that usually covers rainforests is now vanishing, and with that is the normal temperature of the rainforest that affects the animals who are living there. Animals such as the elephants, orangutans, and tigers all have a bleak future ahead of them with their diminishing habitats due to palm oil plantations. Palm oil plantations have such a large impact because it is one the main crops that people make farmland for out of rainforests. The fact that many known and unknown species are being lost rapidly through deforestation is a fact that is not only unnerving but saddening. To think that people are ruining these animals home who have done nothing wrong, seems so sad and cruel.
